GNRM distributes the Bible in Ethiopia to Christians and non-Christians alike. GNRM, under the name Yemiserach Agelglot was set up in January 1996 (Tir, 1988, EC) in Addis Ababa the capital city of Ethiopia and has been engaged in distributing Bibles in monasteries, churches and rural areas where the Bible has been in short supply for the last 23 years.
GNRM believes that the Bible, the Word of God, has immense power to renovate the spiritual, economic, political and sociological situation of a country by transforming the lives of the individuals who read and adhere to it. We believe that Ethiopia as one of the oldest Christian nations in the world can be instrumental in bringing the Christian values of love, peace and stability to its surrounding countries and far beyond.
GNRM has a main office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and uses the church buildings of the Evangelical churches in the country in which it operates for meetings, prayers and fundraising events. At present, GNRM has its representatives in the US, Canada, the UK, Sweden and Norway.
GNRM has been thriving and satisfying the ever-increasing thirst and demand for the Word of God in the country. So far the Ministry has distributed about 90, 000 Bibles through the help of indigenous Christians and those who live outside the country, and has a plan to distribute 500,000 Bibles in the next 5 to 7 years. The amount of money needed to execute this plan is 72 million Ethiopian birr or about 3.2 million dollars for buying the Bibles, and 111,971,000 birr or 4,100,000 dollars to cover the cost of distribution which includes transport and other expenses. To achieve this target GNRM appeals to every Ethiopian who lives abroad to fulfil his/her responsibility by buying at least one Bible. For example if every Ethiopian who lives abroad buys one Bible there is a possibility of distributing 2 million Bibles. At present the Ethiopian Bible Society can import only 500, 000 Bibles for a country of 90 million people due to shortage of money. This is better than nothing but it isn’t enough to meet the needs of the people who are increasingly hungry for the Word of God.
